How did we get there?
The idea behind the Saving the Generations UK was born out of my rough life while growing up in Africa. Born into a poor family in Uganda, I became orphan after the death of my parents at a very early age. My relatives, who went on to shoulder my responsibility after my parents demised couldn’t afford to pay my school fees. In the end, I became a street vendor; roasting sweet corn (maize) to sell on the street in order to get money to send myself to school.
Along the way, when I entered secondary school, I met a Canadian missionary during an orphans helping initiative in Rakai District in Uganda who offered to assist me with my school charges. This was the same time when the HIV/AIDS pandemic was hitting Africa the hardest, especially Uganda, my home country.
It was from the generosity of the missionaries that revolutionize my passion of helping people who couldn’t one way or the other help themselves. I’ve seen people dying of starvation, hunger and diseases. So when I came to this country, I vowed to support any one who is going hungry in my own little way I can. The long term vision of Saving the Generations is not limited to Reading or the UK, we aim to have our presence in many other cities across the UK and other countries which are face with acute hunger and starvation.
While in the UK, I came to realized that the same hunger and starvation which many of the poor people like myself in my community were faced are the situation which some of the needy UK citizens have to endure. And knowing and having firsthand experience of what it means for one to go without food for days due to lack of support and resources, I saw the need to create the Saving the Generations UK charity which caters for Food, clothing and other necessary for homeless people, mostly women and children.
As a matter of fact, food scarcity is an acceptable phenomena in all countries, yet it does exist, especially among those the poorest who can’t have enough to put on the table due to lack of opportunity. It could be in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana etc, the human suffering that triggers our emotions to do humanitarian work is the same, and that why we decided to create Saving the Generation UK, and use the platform to reach out to many of those severely needy and help them with a provision to get a hot meal for themselves and their children. My goal is to put smile on someone else face through my efforts in the same way those Canadian missionaries put smile on my face at the time when I needed it the most.
